GEO. W. CHAPMAN, 74 DIES AT NORTH ELM George W. Chapman, 74, year old prominent Milam county pioneer citizen, died at his home in the North Elm community Monday morning at…suffering from a severe case of pneumonia for the past several weeks and grew critically ill several days before his death. Mr. Chapman is a native of Texas and came to Milam county from Robertson county where he spent his early life 53 years ago. On October 25, 1888 he married to Miss Mary Kinsel at the home of her parents in the Ad Hall community. On Sunday, October 23, 1938, the pioneer couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner and all day gathering at a picnic spot near the Norman Valley bridge on Little River. In addition to his 72 year old widow, Mr. Chapman is survived by three children, Williard Chapman of San Gabriel, Mrs. R. A. Griswold of Yarrellton and Mrs. Fred Smith of Corpus Christi; ten grand children, Raymond, Hilton and Aleen Griswold, Jesse Chapman, David, Georgia, Rena Mae, Billy, Alice Frances, and Ida Irene Smith; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Wilson of Groesbeck and Mrs. Nancy Rasco of Kosse, and one brother, Jim Chapman of Groesbeck. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at North Elm. Interment will be made in North Elm cemetery with Green Funeral Home directing arrangements. The Cameron Herald, 7 Dec 1939
