  • Obituary: Masonic Funeral For A D Lucas, Pioneer Confederate Veteran Honored By Fraternity At North Elm A. D. Lucas, 84, pioneer and confederate veteran, was buried Friday afternoon March 4, 1927 in North Elm Cemetery by the Masonic Lodge of Cameron of which he was a member. The services were held in the church with Rev. E. L. Springer, former county missionary, pronouncing a beautiful eulogy over the body of the veteran. Rev. Springer told much of the life history of Mr. Lucas, praising the sacrifices of the Confederate soldiers and their wives who stayed at home during the war. Mr. Lucas was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a loyal member for many years. The service conducted at the grave by the Lodge was led by Judge John Watson assisted by Drayton McLane, master of the Lodge. A number of Masons from Cameron joined with Masons at Yarrellton in conducting the services. A. D. Lucas, 84, died at the residence of his son, W. M. Lucas Thursday March 3, 1927 at 6 oclock a. m. Mr. Lucas was a Civil War Veteran and a pioneer of Texas. He was born September 24, 1842 in Birmingham, Alabama. He came to Texas in 1879 and settled in Parker County. For the past several years he has made his home with his son, W. M. Lucas in Cameron. Mr. Lucas had many friends who loved him for his noble traits of character and will mourn his death with his wife, seven boys, one daughter, thirty-three grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at North Elm Friday, March 4 with Rev. E. L. Springer, former Missionary of Milam County and a friend of the deceased, conducting the service. Interment was held in the North Elm Cemetery with Coleman-Eplen Undertakers in charge of the arrangements. The Herald extends sympathy to the bereaved family in the loss of their loved one.
