  • Obituary: JOHNNIE LEE RICHARDS CAMERON Services for Johnnie Lee Richards, 88, of Austin, formerly of Cameron, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. James E. Lafferty officiating. Burial followed in North Elm Cemetery. Mrs. Richards died Monday, April 1, in a San Antonio nursing facility. She was born in Milam County on March 7, 1914. A 1932 graduate of C. H. Yoe High School, she worked as a beauty operator in Cameron from 1941 until 1971 when she relocated to Austin. In Austin, Mrs. Richards worked as state deaf coordinator for Mental Health & Mental Retardation Department. She was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church in Austin. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank Richards, in 1969 and a daughter, R. M. Richards. Survivors are a son, Charles Richards and wife Margaret of San Antonio; two brothers, Monroe Kennedy of Rockdale and Howard Kennedy of Sweeny; two granddaughters, Tammy and Renee; and five great-grandchildren, Eric, Steven, Amanda, Julia and Mark.
