  • Obituary: FRANCES NABOURS BARKER Frances Nabours Barker, 84, of Cameron died Feb. 14, in a Temple hospital. Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. James E. Lafferty and Rev. Shelton Rhodes officiating. Burial followed in the North Elm Cemetery near Yarrellton. Mrs. Barker was born July 31, 1923 in Gause to Robert Homer and Riebe Willie (Fisher) Nabours. She had worked as a medical office assistant to Dr. Sidney Richardson in Cameron for many years. She had served as manager for the Cameron Chamber of Commerce and advisor for Hill Country. She was a member of the History Club, Yoe Foundation, Crime Stoppers and the Silver Haired Legislature. She married Col. Edward Barker on Oct. 19, 1992 and he survives her. Other survivors include her son, Kin Griffin of Cameron; daughters Lynda Griffin Lewis of Cameron and Becky Griffin Hillman, also of Cameron; brothers Robert H. Nabours of Galveston, Kenneth Nabours of Iowa and Paul Nabours of Cameron; sisters Trent Hellman of Virginia and Hortense Tumlinson of Cameron; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
