- Obituary: Edna Ophelia Richards Miss Edna Ophelia Richards, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Richards of Cameron died at the family residence at 7:30 oclock Thursday morning from pneumonia. Miss Richards was a popular member of the graduating class at Yoe High school for 1928 and her death comes as a distinct sorrow and with sadness to a large host of friends. Funeral services directed by Green Bros., are announced for 2:30 p.m. Friday December 30 at North Elm Baptist church with Rev. E. L. Springer assisted by Rev. E. S. - Obituary: Lightning Kills Man on Farm at Yarrellton Fayette Richards Struck Down Near Bride in Cotton Field Fayette Richards, 27 years old, farmer living near Yarrellton was instantly killed Monday afternoon during a storm eight miles west of Cameron. He was married on Saturday and with him at the time of his death was his bride of three days. It is said that both were standing holding a cotton sack into which cotton was being placed when the bolt struck him killing him instantly. The funeral was held there Tuesday. Mr. Richards was well known here, having been star state witness in a case in criminal district court in the case of Lazrus Carey negro rooming house proprietor, charged by indictment with selling liquor, and having testified at the trial here assisting the officers in breaking up illicit traffic in liquor. The offense occurred in front of a stored owned by the man's brother. The man's brother came out of the store as he argued with Officer Richards and shot the officer eight times. The suspect then turned himself in to the county sheriff. He was convicted of the murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison. Officer Richards had been with the agency for 14 years and was survived by his wife, two daughters, mother and nine siblings.
