- Obituary: DUANE “D. W.Ã¢â‚¬ï† WILLIAMS Graveside funeral services for Duane W. “D.W.Ã¢â‚¬ï† Williams, 73, were held Monday, June 3, 2013, at North Elm Cemetery near Cameron. Mr. Williams died Thursday, May 30, in St. Davids Hospital in Georgetown. He was born Oct. 3, 1939, in Houston to Garland W. and Doris L. (Stoeckle) Williams. Mr. Williams lived in Rockdale the past 29 years moving here from Coos Bay, Oregon. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea from 1959 to 1963. Mr. Williams was a paper maker for Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill in Coos Bay, Oregon. After moving to Rockdale, he worked at the Rockdale Post Office for several years. He married Kay Williams on Jan. 1, 1985, in Rockdale. Mr. Williams was a member of the Rockdale American Legion Carlyle Post No. 358 and was an supporter and sponsor of the annual Rockdale MARC run. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Survivors are two sons, John “J.W.Ã¢â‚¬ï† Williams of Central Point, Oregon, Garland Williams of Coos Bay, Oregon; a sister, Shirley Tooke of Lakeland, Florida; two nieces, Sherry Colborn of Bluffton, South Carolina, Karren Boshears of Colorado; his first wife and the mother of his children, Sonja Williams of Coos Bay, Oregon; also, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were, J.W. Williams, Garland Williams, Charles Starr, Neal Ferrell, Rod Roderick and Sundance. Memorials may be made to Rockdale MARC Center, 1705 Pecos, Rockdale, TX 76567. Burial was in North Elm Cemetery near Yarrellton. Mrs. Weems died Sunday in a Cameron hospital after a brief illness. She was born April 16, 1888, in Milam County, the daughter of Crawford Powell and Fannie Redden Powell. She was a member of the South Elm Baptist Church. Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. Annie Jo Duncan of Tuscola, Texas; a brother, Rueben F. Powell of Ft. Worth; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
