- Obituary: VIDA JANE PIEKERT Vida Jane Piekert, 69, of Cameron died April 22 in a Temple hospital. The Rev. Gene VanNoord officiated at her funeral April 26 at North Elm Cemetery in Cameron. She was born Nov. 6, 1934 in Big Spring to Robert Leslie and Hattie Kathryn (Massey) Perkins. She served in the US Army and taught school. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cameron. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Lynn Perkins in 2003. She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Thompson and husband Chuck of Madisonville and Julia Taylor and husband Leland of Cameron; sister Dodi Marek and husband Daniel of Cameron; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. - Obituary: JOHNNIE LEE RICHARDS CAMERON Services for Johnnie Lee Richards, 88, of Austin, formerly of Cameron, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. James E. Lafferty officiating. Burial followed in North Elm Cemetery. Mrs. Richards died Monday, April 1, in a San Antonio nursing facility. She was born in Milam County on March 7, 1914. A 1932 graduate of C. H. Yoe High School, she worked as a beauty operator in Cameron from 1941 until 1971 when she relocated to Austin. In Austin, Mrs. Richards worked as state deaf coordinator for Mental Health & Mental Retardation Department. She was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church in Austin. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank Richards, in 1969 and a daughter, R. M. Richards. Survivors are a son, Charles Richards and wife Margaret of San Antonio; two brothers, Monroe Kennedy of Rockdale and Howard Kennedy of Sweeny; two granddaughters, Tammy and Renee; and five great-grandchildren, Eric, Steven, Amanda, Julia and Mark.
